An animal bite can be painful whether or not the teeth actually break the skin. In some cases, it can result in infection and other serious health complications. Fortunately, there are steps that you can take to minimize the odds that an animal decides to bite you.
Don’t Approach an Unknown Animal
Just because a dog or other animal looks friendly doesn’t mean that it is friendly. In some cases, animals will become defensive if they are cornered or if you get between them and their young. Be Aware of the Animal’s Body Language
An animal will likely show signs that it is afraid or will otherwise become aggressive if you don’t leave it alone. For instance, it could start growling or showing its teeth. These should be clear indications that the creature does not want to pet or otherwise interacted with. The best thing to do is to slowly back away without making any eye contact to show that you are not a threat.
